What are seniors looking for in a language book? Are their requirements any different to the rest of the population? I carried out a quick survey of a currently running class on English for Tourists aimed at this sector to find out more. The word book here refers to a paper version. What the group told me:
- The text must be easy to read (size and font)
- They prefer to handle an A4 sized book rather than something smaller.
- One of the most important features for this beginner group was to have access to L1 on every page.
- Cool design was not so important.
- Links to relevant websites to support learning are important.
- The opportunity to access the material on a Smartphone or iPad was attractive to all of them.
- They would appreciate the opportunity to hear recordings of the text.
