Meal of tarantulas

Chapter on Green Pedagogy available online

One of the most significant advantages of being a partner in the ProfESus project was learning about the Green Pedagogy approach to sustainability education. One of the originators of the Green Pedagogy approach, Christine Wogowitsch, and I have co-authored a chapter to bring the pedagogy to the English-speaking world from its Austrian origins and it can be found here. The book of which it forms a part will not be available until later in 2021.

The chapter is sub-titled ‘Using confrontation and provocation to promote sustainability skills’ and explains how widening learners’ perspectives and getting them to consider each sustainability issue also from a local point of view can help to build sustainability skills and competencies as well as knowledge.

The chapter was an opportunity to use a photo of a meal of tarantulas as an example of how to challenge the concept of meal in a lesson about institutional catering.
