The En-ROADS climate simulator

Action on climate change

The En-ROADS climate simulator is a one-page interactive climate simulator that can show you the effects of policy decisions up to the year 2100. I recently discovered En-ROADS and completed the course that guides me in its use.

Designed for policy makers at the highest level, it is nevertheless useful at all levels. What I like about it.

  1. Based on reliable data sources
  2. Assumptions and data are updated monthly so it is always up to date.
  3. Can be used to explore how to limit warming by 2100 to 2 degrees C or lower (yes, it is possible).
  4. With abundant additional information about each parameter, it is easy to explore social justice issues eg what would happen if we raised the price of natural gas to discourage its use?
  5. The team behind En-ROADS have developed pedagogically sound workshop and game simulations to help aspiring facilitators get the most out it, including the timely insertion of social justice questions as participants weigh the merits of various actions.

I am looking forward to the opportunity to try this out with various groups over the next few months. The facilitator guidance from Climate Interactive is critical in getting the most out of the simulator.
